Polymarket Faces Investigation Over Suspicious Nobel Peace Prize Bets
Norwegian authorities are probing unusual trading activity on Polymarket following large bets placed on Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado hours before she was announced as the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Three accounts collectively profited $90,000 from the wagers, raising concerns about potential leaks.
The market initially favored candidates like Yulia Navalnaya, Donald Trump, and Pope LEO XIV before experiencing a sharp shift toward Machado. Nobel committee deliberations concluded by October 6, making the timing of these bets particularly suspicious.
This isn't Polymarket's first controversy involving possible insider information. The platform, which allows prediction market trading, now faces scrutiny over whether privileged information influenced these high-stakes wagers.
